There are weddings that dazzle, and then there are weddings that breathe. Josée and David’s day on the shores of Georgian Bay was the kind that felt like a long, slow exhale. Unhurried, deeply intentional, and so full of love it seemed to spill right into the water.

Their home on Manitoulin Island became the most perfect backdrop for a day that was never about grand gestures. It was about the small ones. The ones that make you feel something you can’t quite put into words.

The morning unfolded the way I would love every wedding morning to, gently, and without rush. Josée got herself ready surrounded by just her sister and best friend, the kind of getting-ready energy that feels more like a slow Saturday morning rather than a countdown to a ceremony. Meanwhile, the boys found time for a pre-wedding dip in the lake. And honestly? I think it set the tone for everything that followed.

The setting itself did so much of the talking. A single long harvest table stretched out beneath string lights to seat every guest. No head table or separation, just everyone together, under the open sky. Georgian Bay stretched out behind them in the August light, and the whole scene felt less like a reception setup and more like something out of a dream you’d want to stay in a little longer.

During the ceremony, I kept finding myself drawn to Josée’s parents. The way they looked at her – that particular kind of joy that only a parent carries on a day like this, equal parts pride and wonder and something that doesn’t quite have a name – was one of those things you feel lucky to have your camera pointed at. Beaming doesn’t even cover it.

During cocktail hour, Cole Hughson filled the air with the most beautiful acoustic set. It was the kind of music that makes people slow down, lean into each other, and actually be present. The perfect bridge between ceremony and celebration.

But the moment that stopped me, the one I’ll carry with me for a long time, was watching the guests find their seats and discover the handwritten notes waiting for them. Josée and David had written to each person individually, sharing a favourite memory they held together. Watching people read those words, seeing their faces shift from curiosity to something much softer, was one of the most quietly moving things I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing. And then, one by one, Josée and David moved through the table – hugging each guest, speaking with them personally before dinner began. It wasn’t a receiving line. It was something so much more genuine than that.

The meal that followed was extraordinary. Chef Simon Desousa brought something truly special to the table, food that felt as considered and intentional as every other detail of the day. The kind of meal that slows conversation down in the best way, where everyone lingers a little longer between bites.

As the evening wound down, the families gathered their words. And in the way that only the people who know you best can, they spoke about Josée and David in a way that made the whole day make even more sense. There wasn’t a moment of the evening that felt accidental. Every part of it was chosen with care.

Josée and David, your wedding day was one I will not forget. It reminded me why I do this work – to document the days that feel like home, the love that doesn’t need to perform, and the moments that are only made more beautiful by how simply they unfold.
